CLIMATE CHANGE EDUCATION
With climate change already affecting millions of people worldwide, most being in developing countries, the subject has been on top of world agenda. Tanzania National Adaptation Programme of Action (NAPA) that has been designed to tackle climate change problem in Tanzania calls upon increasing public awareness to climate change impacts and adaptation activities through climate change education programs in our communities.
In addressing this TAYEN conducts climate change education programs for young people in Tanzania to educate and equip them with necessary knowledge and skills on causes, impacts and what role they can play in tackling climate change. From 2009 TAYEN has been collaborating with MY CLIMATE Foundation of Switzerland to implement Hot Stuff Chill Out project in Tanzania.
The "Hot Stuff – Chill Out" project www.hotstuffchillout.org links school classes around the world where young people in different parts of the world exchange ideas about the causes, effects of climate change and what can be done to address climate change in their local communities.
CLIMATE CHANGE FILM SHOWS
In educating young people in Tanzania about Climate Change,TAYEN conducts film shows on two climate change documentaries: AN INCONVINIENT TRUTH by Al Gore and CLIMATE WITNESS IN TANZANIA, Climate Change Testimonials from Tanzania directed and produced by WWF Programme Office in Tanzania.
Films shows have been done in Sokoine University of Dar es Salaam (SUA), University of Dar es Salaam(UDSM) and in secondary schools of Makongo, Tegeta, St. Francis, Kihonda, and Mbezi Beach. Through these films young people have learnt causes, impacts of climate change and what role they can play in stoping climate change form happening.
CLEAN UP CAMPAIGNS
In addressing solid waste problems in Tanzania and educating young people on proper waste management practices TAYEN conducts Youth and Community Clean Up campaigns in schools and in waste problematic areas such market places, bus stations, etc to educate young people about solid waste management.
Through clean up campaigns young people are sensitized to take action in managing waste in their households and community for safer and health environment to all. TAYEN has conducted clean up campaigns and distributed waste management tools in Kigamboni Ferry station, Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) and Tegeta secondary school to minimize waste.
PROMOTING DOMESTIC TOURISM
Tanzania is endowed and blessed with vast natural and wildlife resources including unique national parks and historical sites. However most of young people in the country are unaware of these amazing places and resources available in the country.
Each year TAYEN organizes Youth Excurison trips to Tanzania National Parks and Historical sites for young people to learn and explore about their country's resources. The programme aims on exposing young people to existing tourist attractions available in Tanzania and thus promoting domestic tourism.
